Giving back is big business in Nigeria, where 31 philanthropists have given a total of $434.17 million in the last five years, according to a new report from the African Philanthropy Forum.
The median donation amount is $197, 394, while the average donation is $14,005, reports the Guardian.
The report found that 30% of philanthropists in Nigeria are "highly engaged" in private and corporate philanthropy, with 25.5% raising funds through strategic partnerships, 27.5% seeking multilateral organizations, and 19.2% asking individuals to give.
Family contributions make up another 13% of donations.
The Ford Foundation, which released the report, wants to "break down barriers and leverage tax incentives to encourage private giving" in Nigeria.
